India Team News & Playing 11

IND Team News

India rested Mohammed Shami and Yuzvendra Chahal for their final group match against Sri Lanka, with Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav brought in. Both changes are likely to be reversed for the semi-final, however. Dinesh Karthik has been selected ahead of Kedar Jadhav and is set to bat at number seven.

IND Key Players

Rohit Sharma has been the stand-out batsman of the 2019 Cricket World Cup, scoring his fifth century in eight innings as India saw off Sri Lanka last time out. Sharma has now scored 100s in his last three consecutive games on his way to a tournament-high 647 runs in total.

Virat Kohli is India’s next highest run-scorer, having scored five consecutive half-centuries during the group stage. The India captain has hit 442 runs in total at an average of 63.14 after his unbeaten 34 against Sri Lanka.

KL Rahul, opening the batting, hit 111 in that game and shared a 189-run partnership with Sharma to move to 360 runs from eight innings in total.

With the ball, Jasprit Bumrah claimed three wickets to return to the top of India’s wicket-taking charts with 17, complemented by a superb economy rate of 4.48 runs per over. Mohammed Shami will be pushing for a recall after taking 14 wickets in just four matches, while spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has taken 11 in seven games.

IND Team Form

India bounced back from their only group stage defeat – a 31-run defeat to hosts England at Edgbaston – by beating Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to sign off on a high.

Against Bangladesh, Rohit Sharma scored 104 in a total of 314/9. Jasprit Bumrah then claimed 4-55 as India bowled the Tigers out for 286 in reply.

Sharma then hit another century – his fifth of the tournament and third in a row – to lead India to a commanding victory against Sri Lanka. He scored 103 and KL Rahul hammered 111 as India needed just 43.3 overs to chase 265 and win by seven wickets.

New Zealand Team News & Playing 11

NZ Team News

Defeats to Australia and England halted New Zealand’s momentum in this tournament but the team that faces India could be similar to the one defeated by the hosts last time out. Henry Nicholls has replaced Colin Munro at the top of the order and, though he was out first ball, his pre-tournament form may demand another chance. Tim Southee was expensive in place of Lockie Ferguson, however, and the latter could be back.

NZ Key Players

Kane Williamson top-scored for New Zealand during the group stage, scoring two match-winning centuries – including 148 against West Indies at Old Trafford – on his way to 481 runs in total. He was unlucky to be run out at the non-striker’s end before he could make an impact against England last time out.

Ross Taylor hit 261 runs, meanwhile, having come into the tournament as one of the most in-form batsmen in world ODI cricket.

New Zealand’s bowlers have impressed, meanwhile. Lockie Ferguson has 17 wickets from seven matches, while Trent Boult took 15 from eight. Ahead of the tournament, Boult was second in the world rankings behind only Jasprit Bumrah.

NZ Team Form

New Zealand’s group-stage efforts fizzled out with defeats to Pakistan, Australia and England in their final three games – meaning they only reached a semi-final spot on net run rate.

They could not defend 237/6 in a low-scoring game against Pakistan at Edgbaston, losing by six wickets. Then, against Australia, chasing 244 to win after Trent Boult’s 4-51, they collapsed to just 157 all out.

It was a similar story against England. They pegged the hosts back well after a tough start, leaving them chasing 306 to win at Durham, but they posted just 186 all out in 45 overs.

New Zealand Predicted Playing 11

  • Martin Guptill, Henry Nicholls, Kane Williamson (c), Ross Taylor, Tom Latham (wk), Colin de Grandhomme, Jimmy Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry

IND vs NZ Head to Head

India and New Zealand’s group-stage game fell victim to the rain – the only no result either team endured during the group stage. It means they go into this game having met 106 times in ODI history. There have been 55 Indian wins, 45 for New Zealand, one tie and five no results.

They last met in New Zealand in January, when India were in dominant form on their way to a 4-1 series win.

India vs New Zealand Betting Odds

With New Zealand’s form grinding to a halt in their final three group games, it is no surprise to see table-topping India go into these semi-finals as favourites. India are 1.36 favourites with bet365 to beat New Zealand in the first semi-final at Old Trafford. New Zealand are outsiders at 3.20 with bet365. India are 1.36 favourites to beat New Zealand with Betway.

IND vs NZ Dream 11 Prediction

With both teams boasting some of the leading players in world ODI cricket, there is a balancing act to be performed between the expensive options and the bargain finds.

Wicket-keeper

MS Dhoni has the most points out of the four wicket-keepers, but he is more expensive than Tom Latham – who did well last time out – and every credit counts. Latham is eight credits.

Batsmen

Rohit Sharma’s form means you simply have to pick him. After three straight hundreds he is captaincy material for your Dream 11 team. Virat Kohli is another that must be picked, as is New Zealand captain Kane Williamson. That does not really leave enough budget to fit Ross Taylor in too, but he has made less impact and would be a big gamble. KL Rahul is 8.5 credits and his form is really good too.

All-rounders

Hardik Panya and Jimmy Neesham are the more expensive all-rounders as they have scored more points so far. Colin de Grandhomme and Mitchell Santner will feature for New Zealand, however, and both have made big impacts.

Bowlers

Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult and Mohammed Shami have showed excellent form in this tournament, as has Lockie Ferguson. All four are nine credits, and a choice of three will ensure good coverage. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has returned to the India team and is just eight credits, which is a suitable way to balance the budget. That leaves 8.5 credits – enough to finish the team off with spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.

Captain/Vice-captain

Rohit Sharma has hit three consecutive centuries for India and his form makes him impossible to overlook as captain. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul are capable of big runs too, as is Kane Williamson. Jasprit Bumrah can be relied upon to deliver with the ball, meanwhile.

India vs New Zealand Prediction

New Zealand ended the group stage in poor form, whereas India – powered by Rohit Sharma’s batting – bounced back well from their only defeat. India proved their dominance by topping the table and they can see off the Black Caps to book a spot in the final.
